今週もお外に飛び出しました。
ガイドの方とメープルの木々の間を歩き、
色々教えてもらいました。
夏の間に光合成で作られた糖分が
秋の落葉とともに根に移動し、
春になり暖かくなるとと、
根から枝へと移動します。
その糖分の含まれた樹液を採取し
煮詰めるとメープルシロップが出来ます。

Summer: Leaves photosynthesize Sugar
Fall: Leaves fall and Sugar goes to roots
Spring: Sugar goes back to branches
Take sap which contains sugar and
sap is boiled into maple syrup.

原住民の言葉では
このように言うそうです。
Native American found Sugar Maple
and they say Sugar Maple as
" SINZIBUK WUD"
樹液を採取する缶です。
現在はプラスティックやチューブが
使われています。
Sap-collecting method
Recently plastic bags and tubes
have come to be used.
昔はこうやってシロップを運んだそうです
In the old days, sup were carried
like this way.
樹液が取れる大きさになるまで
40年位かかるそうです。
It takes about 40 years to grow
big enough to take sup.

前日かいけは日本語補習校の後、お泊りに。かいけパパとママは
鬼のいぬまに大掃除を済ませました♪
今日はお友達ご家族のおうちでおいしい和食をご馳走になり、
その後一緒に、車で小一時間ほどの町にある氷祭りを見に行ってきました。
February 20th Ice Festival
On Saturday, Kaike went to "sleep over" after the Japanese Language School.

On Sunday, we enjoyed Japanese style dinner at our friend's apartment, then
took one our drive to an Ice Festival together.
Buildings surrounding Public Square
are fairly tasteful.

February 12th rode a sled
そり遊びに出かけました。
今日は新兵器のチューブそり！
かいけよりも大きいです。
Today was fine day!
Kaike and Papa went out to a nearby park.
Kaike tried new tube sled.
That is bigger than Kaike.
じいじに送ってもらった日本の
凧を揚げるかいけ。
Hello Kitty's kite came
from Kaike's grandpa.
Kaike was flying it very well.
2月5日 氷祭り
公園で氷祭りをしていると聞いてかいけとパパが出かけてきました。
（ママは風邪でダウン）雪とたわむれ、氷の彫刻を楽しみ、
マシュマロを暖炉で焼いて食べ、鹿さんまで堪能してきたそうです。
February 5th. Ice Festival
Kaike and dad went to the Ice Festival.
(Mom stayed in bed with a cold)
She enjoyed snow, Ice sculpture, roasted marshmallows and a deer!
グラハムクラッカーやビスケットにはさんで食べます。

2月4日 スケートショーを見に行ってきました。 ショーのテーマはイマジネーション！
サラ・ヒューズ、アレクセイ・ヤグディン始め、オリンピックや世界選手権で
メダルを取った有名な選手がずら〜り。Nemoよりも親としては面白かったです。
ユカ・サトウ、キョウコ・イナという二人の日本人女性も活躍していました。
February 4th. Stars on Ice The theme is "Imagination"
Wow how gorgeous! Members are all Medalists. For example,
Sarah Hughes, Alexei Yagudin and so on. Also two originally Japanese women
Yuka Sato and Kyoko Ina showed impressive skate.
Parents cared for this show more than Nemo!
